YOUR GUIDE TO MID-AUTUMN FEST
None of the celebrations across Hong Kong’s annual cultural calendar are as sweet as the Mid-Autumn or Mooncake Festival. A round shape symbolises unity in Chinese culture so the Full Moon is its perfect representation and on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month every year, families get together to make offerings to the heavens, to express thanks for a successful harvest and to reunite with family.

THEY'RE NOT FOR THOSE ON A DIET..
| The origin of these unique pastries dates back to the Yuan dynasty (1271-1368), where revolutionary soldiers seemingly used them to hide and pass on secret messages. Traditionally, mooncakes are pastries with a rich filling made with egg yolks and lotus seed paste. They are normally eaten in small wedges, accompanied by Chinese tea. They’re not for those on a diet! | Hong Kong welcomes this public holiday in style with fire dragon dances, lantern displays and carnivals – the biggest of which is held in Victoria Park in the city’s Causeway Bay districy. To celebrate the giving of mooncakes as symbolic gifts for family or business partners, Hotel ICON pays tribute to this celestial tradition with exquisitely-crafted Mini Egg Custard Mooncakes. |
