Unforgettable Memories

ICON-GUIDE

A New York minute is a Hong Kong second is a saying you’ll hear from expats who live in this thrilling, idiosyncratic city and it’s not hard to see why. Hong Kong teems with energy from the moment you arrive, and it never lets up.

Shopping is on the must-do list, as are dim sum, sightseeing, and the latest, hippest crop of restaurants and bars. Landmarks and skylines need to be photographed, there are countless street markets to explore or get lost in, and ferries and boat rides are waiting. Needless to say, it’s impossible to do everything, but there are some experiences that simply shouldn’t be missed. Whether you’re visiting Hong Kong for the first time or the tenth, here are a few things you absolutely can’t miss.

Star Ferry: Start on the Star Ferry. The free bus from Icon will get you almost there and it’s the most inexpensive way to soak up the splendor of Victoria Harbour and watch the sunset if you catch the right time. Or you could hire a Chinese junk for the entire evening if you want to splash out! It will come with food, crew and cocktails, or take a cruise on one of the boats for a romantic evening with dinner.

The Stoep: Dine in style on the beach. Cheung Sha is one of Hong Kong’s longest and one of its most beautiful stretches of sand. You can’t beat a sunset dinner with your toes in the sand and it’s spectacular here as the sun goes down. 32 Lower Cheung Sha Village, Lantau Island, tel +852 2980 2699

The Peak: Walk the Hong Kong trail for spectacular views. It takes about 40--60 minutes depending on how many times you stop to admire the Sweeping panoramic vistas! You can ride the Peak tram up and down but you may have to queue a little. It’s worth it though!

Temples and Flowers: The flower market on Kowloon is spectacular and very reasonable. If you are fan of orchids you won’t get better, and get your future told at the Wong Tai Sin temple. You can ride the MTR to Wong Tai Tin Station, Exit B2. The oldest temple in Hong Kong though is Man Mo and you’ll find that as you walk around Central on Hollywood Road!

Angsana Spa: If you are into a more relaxing time, then why not enjoy a treatment at Icon’s own Angsana spa? You can even book a treatment room for two and experience the ultimate in pampering and relaxation.

The view from Icon’s signature restaurant can’t be beaten so you should enjoy that whilst you dine together or enjoy a glass of ice--cold champagne.

Finally, for the ultimate romantic proposal (if that’s what you’re hoping for) go to St Joseph’s Chapel at Yim Tin Tsai a tiny island off Sai Kung and whilst you are there, experience some genuinely ancient culture. Just don’t tell too many people so it retains its natural and tranquil beauty.
