Clean, safe surfaces: Our airDefender™ Surface Coating Hygiene Project

At Hotel ICON, we pride ourselves in promoting the health and safety of our guests and staff as a top priority. As we constantly invest in the best hygiene and health care practices, we are pleased to announce with the latest precautionary measures that apply to the hotel - airDefender™  antiviral coating works performed on the premises, utilising technology that inhibits bacteria and virus growth.

 

 

As of mid-September 2020, high-touch surfaces of Hotel ICON, including all restaurants, hotel lobby, lifts and staff areas, were thoroughly coated with airDefender™’s unique technology, Quantum-Dot Photocatalyst, that helps eliminate toxic organic matter, virus and bacteria, lasting for a full year. The science behind this process is based on the finding that seemingly smooth surfaces are actually highly porous and adherent, meaning that bacteria and viruses can be found in micro gaps on these surfaces. As traditional cleaning processes may not comprehensively prevent from these particles, the Quantum-Dot Photocatalyst makes contact with these areas and extracts the virus, making it easy to clean. This technology also enhances water penetration ability, improving the performance of traditional cleaning agents.

 

The airDefender™  has major recognitions from renowned international bodies, including being proven effective against TGEV-Coronavirus by a German-based company, Eurovir Hygiene-Labor GmbH, in April 2020. Furthermore, it is certified as a high-performance Quantum-level photocatalyst solution by NASA, and proven effective against H1N1, non-irritating and non-toxic to human consumption by SGS, the world-acclaimed Independent International Laboratory. Driven by our “thinking green” approach, we made sure that the material is not only safe to humans but also to the environment.

 

 

The airDefender™ purification is not the first step we have taken towards health and safety innovation. In April, we kicked off the first phase of precautionary measures, such as air purification system by using UV light technology and negative room pressure application in order to prevent air leak to the public area. In addition, each guest room is thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and sealed to ensure the rooms will not be accessed or contaminated prior to guests’ arrivals.
