Pastry Chef Danny Ho Hailed As China’s “Durian Prince”

Hotel ICON’s acclaimed Pastry Chef Danny Ho is well loved among Hong Kong locals, but his popularity is now crossing international borders with a large and rapidly increasing fan base in China.

With over 120,000 followers on WeChat, Danny has gained a reputation as the “Durian Prince” because of his famous desserts using the rare Asian fruit. This spring, a group of more than 20 guests will be traveling to Hong Kong especially to attend one of Chef Danny’s bi-weekly pastry making classes.

 

Chef Danny has created over 100 different durian desserts since he started at Hotel ICON, many of which can be tried and tasted at both GREEN brasserie and The Market’s award-winning international buffet. All-time favourites include Durian Merah Chocolate Pops, Char-grilled Durian Kaya Toast, Durian Nougat Sandwich Cookies, and Durian Pineapple Buns.

 

Chef Danny oversees all pastry and bakery operations at the hotel. Born in Malaysia, he specialises in French pastry loves to combine unique ingredients and seasonal produce to create one-of-a-kind desserts. He was honoured as the PATA Face of the Future in 2016 – an award given to an exceptional ‘rising star’ in the travel industry – and received a Gold with Distinction Award in Pastry Professional Showpiece in the Hong Kong International Culinary Classic 2011, among many other distinctions.
